Henry VIII, the king of England during the 16th century, is famously known for his numerous marriages. He had a total of 6 wives! Their names were Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard, and Catherine Parr. His marriages were often controversial and political, leading to some of the most significant events in English history, such as the break with the Roman Catholic Church and the creation of the Church of England. Despite his many marriages, Henry VIII was only able to produce one surviving male heir, Edward VI, who succeeded him as king.
